How to survive lock down!!!
I hope your all keeping safe and as sane as you can be!!
I haven't written a blog in a while, life has been so busy with working full time, prepping for my upcoming competition and looking after the whirlwind that is kai bear! But as i have been given this time to take a step back I'm trying to get all the things done i don't usually have time for, keeping this blog updated is one of them!
Now more than ever we need some motivation to keep going so i thought it might be helpful to give you a list of ten things we can do to try and keep us all on track whether that be with our diet, or exercise or just our mental state!
Number 1: MOVE!!!
we will all be in different situations at the moment, some of you may still have a routine so will still be going to work as normal, others will be isolated on there own, mums like me will be stuck at home with kids driving them mad all day... haha but even though it will be the last thing you feel like doing most days you still need to exercise!!
We have no gym but that doesn't mean we have to stop!
I know how hard it is trying to stay motivated to actually do anything, in your mind you think what's the point, you have no desire to train, you eat bad foods then feel guilty about it, its a vicious cycle!! I promise you if you just get up and do 10 mins of exercise a day you will feel better!!! It will help you sleep, it will give you more energy, you will release the happy hormones that we really need right now! Exercise really is the best medicine!!
If you are struggling to know what to do at home our book is available on Amazon with lots of home exercises in, alternatively, if you message me and tell me what equipment you have at home we can tailor a plan to fit around you.
We also have booty bands on sale if you have no gym equipment, these come with a FREE exercise plan!
2: NUTRITION IS STILL KEY!!
Food is always the hardest part, we can exercise all day but we can not out-train a bad diet!!
It is now even harder as the supermarkets are out of a lot of things, and even though we now have all the time in the world we feel it would be so much easier to grab something quick or order a takeaway!
PREPARATION is key! The night before you need to plan your breakfast dinner and tea so that you are less likely to make a bad decision once already hungry! The healthier choices you make, the better you will feel! The more good stuff you eat the more you will crave it!
That's not to say we can't still have the odd treat lets face it we deserve it right now but don't undo all of your hard work for this moment in time that will soon be over and then you will have to start all over again!!
We can tailor a personalized diet plan to help you make good choices, message for more details.
3: BRUSH YOUR TEETH
Now, this might seem like a random one, but the question i get asked most at the moment is how do i stop snacking? If you brush your teeth you will not want to eat after, this is great to do after you have had your last meal to stop you sitting in front of the tv and eating the entire house!!
WATER!! most of the time we are not hungry, we are dehydrated, if you dont believe me, next time you think you need that biscuit, stop and have some water first, you will soon see that it fills you up and you dont NEED the snack!!
It is so important to keep some form of routine going, if your still working you should find this easier in a way but try and plan your day rather than just waking up and feeling like its groundhog day!
Plan your breakfast, exercise for the day, what you will do to amuse the kids, any work you have to do from home or jobs, try and use your time wisely, make the most of the time you have been given!
Are you having trouble staying positive? Struggling with anxiety/ depression? Listening to meditation before you go to bed or as you wake in the morning could be a big help, if you start and end your day positive you will have a better chance of making it through staying as sane as you can!!
6 YOGA/ STRETCHING
Yoga, pilates, stretching is a must at this time!! We are mostly sat around alot more than usual so may be feeling more aches and pains, keep your body moving, this will also be great for your stress and anxiety! Look after your body and your mind! This would be great to do before bed or as you wake in a morning!
Try writing down everything you are thankful for, your family, your health, the time to be with your loved ones, and repeat positive affirmations daily to remind you to stay grateful for all that you have and give you some perspective, this may seem hard at the moment as you may not feel you have a lot to stay thankful for but there is always one thing!
Why not write a second list of how you can change your life for the better after this is over... is there anything you need to change... your job for example? Could you spend this time doing a course to learn something new?
8 DONT ISOLATE
What i mean by this is keep talking! If your reading this now and feel like you have no one to talk to send me a message, im always here, we need to help get each other through this hard time as best we can!
9.MAKE A LIST
Make a list of all the things you plan to do once isolation is over, this will give you focus, nothing lasts forever!
Try not to be to hard on yourself, you are doing the best you can in this situation, some days you will feel more motivated than others, don't feel bad for having a day of doing absolutely nothing!! for eating all the snacks you want!! Just make sure its not every day!
Try to get out once a day to walk, run or bike, the fresh air will really help, and vitamin d from the sun ( when we get any)
Try not to worry about money ( i get this one is so hard) trust in the fact that there is always a way forward and you will come through this!!
I hope reading this has helped in some way, to all my amazing Leanne Fitness clients keep strong stay safe and im here 24 7!!
